12 years a slave ( 2013 )

Such a captivating biographical movie of Mr.Solomon Northup a black man and his painful journey while he was kidnapped , slaved and sold in a time where Slaves were legal in United States. Though he was a citizen bearing right papers , he was deceived , abducted without his conscious and sold later to highest bidder whom they have to address as " Masters ".  This movie is about Solomon survival through 12 years of slavery while they been labored to work in fields under inhuman conditions inducing them to great deal of hardship and how he finally breathes freedom falls rest of the story. Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northup acted well , his emotions and reactions seeing through the tortures happening around him was portrayed very nicely and will sure disturb any viewers watching. At times you even couldn't resist tears seeing through the painful treatment which goes with slavery and how easily people kill slaves without any consent or remorse . The period at which this story was happening , slavery was predominant everywhere in many countries and this movie would bring out the real face of slavery to people so to make them understand the ordeal and make us empathize the situation they used to be in.

Keeping main cast apart there were few characters whose performance was just mind-blowing like Benedict Cumberbatch ( as ford ) , Brad Pitt ( as Bass ) , they come in screen for very short period but they impress everyone with their stunning acting and they are a proof that humanity still exist in people. Michael Fassbender ( as Epps ) played antagonist role and was a real stunner living upto his name. He fitted to the character really well and it looked like a piece of cake for him walking through this character. There was one other character worth mentioning here and her name is Lupita Nyong'o ( as Patsey ) , her performance was the key to this movie be it while she runs away to get a soap as she felt stinking or when she begs to be killed . these scenes were too disturbing and melanchollic in nature and she suceeds in bringing that emotion to the audience watching this movie. For sure she was also the one who brought right impact to this movie overall.

As a biographical movie , this stands out for sure but it was sad that it only covers the slavery part but i am sure viewers would have wished to see more of his freedom later and how he went against people who slaved him in court of justice , but instead all we get is the small notes at end credits Solomon northup is one man's life but slavery is a much bigger picture , rather was a huge problem those days and i guess this movie never covered that part were this movie failed hugely in that regards. So instead of being a inspiring film , as said at start this movie falls into biographical genre alone talking about one man and his walk towards freedom , his persistence nothing more. Chiwetel Ejiofor did his best as Solomon northup but not to the best. That said this is sure one other movie not to be missed watching , a above average one thats all. This is one movie made for Oscars . Nothing more nothing less.
