Castaway on the Moon (2009) | Korean

Tagline "Desire Makes a Person Smarter"

A superb adventurous feel good movie and a complete entertainer right from the start. JaeYoung tangled with Debts due to loans & Credits he received, decides to commit suicide as he couldn't repay them. So he jumps off from a bridge over Hans river only to later find himself washed away to nearby small island which is not so far from the city. He doesn't know swimming and there is hardly anyway for him to get back to the city from that island, so he starts to adjust to the new conditions there while postponing his suicidal thoughts for a later day while getting slowly attracted to the life there. Strangely a weird girl in city who never stepped out of her room for years gets to notice this person in her camera. So how she starts to community with him and how he manages to live his life there in the island , did they finally manage to meet makes rest of the story interesting.

More then the script itself , its very nice to see life in the wilderness on how he slowly evolves in time using all the limited resources available there. The scene when he tastes black been noodles from his First corn harvest was heart wrenching amd there are many more such scenes which can blow you off with strong feelings. This movie makes us realize the things which are important in life especially which are needed for a person to survive were beautifully portrayed. Though it had a happy ending still felt it as if cult short or incomplete nevertheless on a whole this is a stunning movie not to be missed.

The Wind Will Carry Us (1999) | Iranian

Like all other Iranian films, this film by Abbas Kiarostami brings in nativity to its best. Script is about three men from Tehran traveling to a remote village disguised themselves as Engineers while hiding their real intentions for arriving to that village. These three men want to document a strange ritual carried on that village for the dead during funeral ceremony so they reach to that village after they get the news of a sick 100 year old women who might pass off any day which provides them with a opportunity for their visit. So they stay there waiting for her demise while in meantime getting used to village people , their culture and their life each day of their stay. Did they manage to get what they wanted remains the rest of the story. Movie is virtually good closely capturing reality of a breezy village with narrow streets, Sand dune houses , people and their hospitality were wonderfully portrayed in it supported by natural sounds as BGM. These are the movies which cant be measured in terms of screenplay as it is very slow moving or dragging capturing most of scenes in real-time with less edits to fit in , so this movie needs lots of patience to watch through but if you could connect to the film one could easily travel along with it. Enjoy watch it.

Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami quote: "It is a fact that films without a story are not very popular with audiences, yet a story also requires gaps, empty spaces like in a crossword puzzle, voids that it is up to the audience to fill in. Or, like a private detective in a thriller to discover. I believe in a type of cinema that gives greater possibilities and time to its audience. A half-created cinema, an unfinished cinema that attains completion through the creative spirit of the audience, so resulting in hundreds of films. It belongs to the members of the audience and corresponds to their own world."

 A Perfect Day (2016) | Spanish

A simple journey movie exploring events occurring in a Day of UN Aid workers at a army conflict zone. Benicio Del Toro does a perfect acting again though this time there are no bullets flying around but taking us through the rough terrains near Yugoslavia when they try to remove a corpse from a Well which supplies Drinking water to the neighborhood village. Not much story into this film neither there is any serious plot in there but a good travel film on one of their perfect days. Watchable once if you like such genre.

The Priests (2015) Korean

As name suggests , this movie brings close encounter of strange events that takes place during exorcism and what impacts that could have even on the priests who perform exorcism. In this film , a young girl gets possessed by a powerful demon well known among the Twelve demons of the underworld & how two priests team up to drive away this powerful demon from her body with great resistance while the demon tries to manipulate and exploit weakness in their personal life. Did they succeed in doing that and was the girl saved at the end forms the rest of the story. Not a great movie but can satisfy people who love movies in such genre. Worth watching once.

Son of Saul (2015) Hungarian | German

We have seen many movies on Hitlers Death Camp but his movie takes us very close to the actual events that took place in one of those concentration Camp in Auschwitz. Gives live accounts of those tormenting events directly from the eyes of Protagonist captured entirely on a Running Cam giving us a feel as if we are traveling along with him throughout the entire run.

Our Protagonist Saul who is a prisoner working in that death camp is tasked with Burning the dead bodies recovered from Gas Chamber. One such day he accidentally comes across dead body of young boy who he later discovers to be his son. Though he couldn't able to prevent fate of his son, but as a father he wanted to give a proper burial in presence of Rabbi who is a priest. Though Saul knows he and his team could also be exterminated anytime by Germans , he tries hard to get the body of his beloved boy preventing it from being burned at crematorium. From then on movie accounts the difficulties and risks he goes through to get hold of Rabbi while portraying the horrific scenes that were happening at those camps. Did he manage to do what he wanted and what happened to Saul at the end fills remaining part of the story.

Whats more touching is mixing one's father emotions beautifully while parallelly managing core story as if providing a live feed on those death camp was its success. Though its very heart wrenching to see the pain what many people suffered yet Saul keeps us on screen till the end making us to watch without a blink. No Wonder it won Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards and also Golden Globe award for Best Foreign Language Film along with few others like 2015 Cannes Film Festival winning Grand Prix. A horrific portrayal of hell on earth with a tale to tell , Son and Saul both will live in our memories for a long time. Dont miss it.

In the Heart of the Sea (2015)

Film based on a novel which inturn was captured from real events happened during 1850. Those days the only source of oil is whale oil and drilling oil from earth is so alien to them. So Oil companies send their best men along with a large crew of whalers deep in the sea to hunt whales for extracting oil from their fat. This is about once such long expedition exploring very deep into the sea a place no men went till date where all goes wrong when they happen to see the biggest white whale which was just a legend to them till date. From a expedition it quickly turns to a survival movie when entire crew is been chased down by that whale demolishing their ship making them run for their life, How few of them survive to tell this tale forms the rest of the story.

This film been sitting idle for days and i think this movie deserved more attention then this. Excellent journey and survival film i would say keeps us in toes right from the start and its damn engaging till the end. I was thinking whats so great about whale hunting but after seeing this film, i must say i am surprised or more shocked. One of finest making and with best visuals this movie stands tall among good films with stellar acting from Chris Hemsworth. Dont miss it.

Book of Blood (2009)

Nice concept for a horror flick about ghosts their departure post death and myths behind afterworld but somehow a little bit messed up with screenplay. Kinda paranormal investigation flick and how that ends in a bad fate when they decide to investigate a house which is beleived to be intersection of the dead passage. Below quote from movie would completely explain the rest what is all about. An average flick Can be watched once

"The dead have highways, running through the wasteland behind our lives, bearing an endless traffic of departed souls. They can be heard in the broken places of our world, through cracks made out of cruelty, violence, and depravity. They have sign posts, these highways, and crossroads and intersections. And it is at these intersections where the dead mingle, and sometimes spill over into our world. And if you find yourself at one of those intersections, you should stop and you should listen, because the dead have stories to tell. "

 Charlie (2015) - Malayalam

Making wise its really good with some breath taking visuals supported by wonderful BGM. But when it comes to story-line i felt its not that engaging , may be because its not entirely a love subject but a portrayal of two complicated persons and life from their POV. Wont say this movie was best but a good one though, worth watching once

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Enjoyed watching BVS in big IMAX screen... Portrayal of batman was perfect in it and Ben did a perfect justice to the role. Yes movie is not like a regular marvel ones but it has its own positive edges . Not sure why so much negative talks around .may be expecting nolan out of zack or Marvel out of DC might have dissapointed many nevertheless i enjoyed it. Seeing batman in such a powerful role was pure fun. If one can keep comparisons away they might enjoy the show fully. Have fun watching.

Philosophy of a Knife (2008)

"God Created Heaven , Man Created Hell " - a Tagline perfectly apt for a film like this which is based on Real incidents on a Army secret medical facility " UNIT 731" at Japan During World War II. Most of us know well about the cureal experiments conducted at German Death camps but there were many such incidents happened around the world which mostly went noticed until later time , this film was just portraying one of that.

This movie is more of a Documentary type capturing some of real events occurred during that time with some real pictures supported by Enactments on how some of those Experiments were conducted on Humans. Each moment was so brutal and highly disturbing to see and to even feel how they would have gone through such pain n suffering. Seeing this makes me feel like the tagline is true that there is no such thing as hell until man invented one. While most part of the world celebrates doctors as gods there were others who did their last breath by the same doctors masked as Executioners. Though they say these data collected by such experiments were for greater good to find advanced medicine n cure yet subjecting a person to death killing them bit by bit is so Psychotic and a inhuman way.

Movie is so heavily impacting and there are scenes you could only fast forward. With Two parts of this movie each with two hours run time , it would be the most hardest time you would ever felt watching a movie. Luckily this film is black n white which manages us from a blackout. There were many unwanted Cuts or repeated sequences with bizzard edits placed everywhere in the film purposefully just to give a weird look to it. I might have preferred if it was a complete true documentary with some censor on the enactments not to go deep into the facts yet if it conveyed the cruelty in a better way. That said, this movie clearly brings out the kind of hell what innocent victims went through and i really wish their souls atleast rest in peace wherever they are. Seeing a slasher movie knowing its not real is one thing and seeing a movie which is based on real incidents that someone sometime had actually been through such tormenting experiments makes your heart stop for few seconds.Painful movie definitely not for weak hearted. Dont even go near it if you are.

Kali (2016) - Malayalam

This pair seems to be a magical one and a lucky charm for the director who choose to pick'em. Anger and love both come from same place , the heart but when its shown at a wrong place at wrong time..harmony gets shattered and this movie beautifully portrays that on big screen. I am sure there is sid in everyone of us and seeing this movie might make you feel yourself there at most places which is a great win. Malar was dazzling as always and i had no clue that this would be a wonderful nail biting thriller film at the end which was a great surprise. BGM especially at action sequences.i just loved it and i might have that as a ringtone if found ;)  . Though it wasnt nivin this time yet this movie engaged me to the core and felt like premam all over again. Overall a perfect entertainer again from the duo not to be missed.

Fitoor‬ , a movie were music elevates the mood n feel in it , thanks to Amit Trivedi. Love n Art are not different and when these two meet , its as if everything in the world came to your feet at same time. This film at parts is so lovely but spoiled by weak script and sluggish screenplay plus its inability to bring in the love feel between the two leads. Its failure is it neither gave justice to Art or love and lost its way in middle. Yet deserves a one time watch for its Picturesque visuals it delivers with some blissful music behind it.
