Kochadaiiyan ( 2014 ) - " Failed attempt in disguise but one word takes it to the success line "
This is not the first time or this is not gonna be the last time , may
the generations change or any technology be born but one man , one
success mantra which decides fate of a cinema no matter how good or bad
a movie is....its none other then Superstar or Thalaivar a mantra
chanted every corner of tamilnadu from a school going kid to a aged
retired person. This movie is no different and Rajinikanth with his
strong shoulder carries the entire movie on it and he did succeed in
getting a blockbuster houseful opening. Movie starts with all new title
card Super star rajinikanth with a tuned up Background music gave a
complete goosebumps and was damn perfect.
Okay above said
factors are said as a Thalaivar fan but lets now get into the actual
movie facts.Felt the Opening intro for thalaivar was way ordinary then
what we normally expect from his movie. Be it the jumping from one cliff
of a mountain in horse or jumping from top of a tower to save the king
was way out of logic's..but if at all we considered this logic's or
gravity rules..will we still be his fan ? No filmy rules book applies
here. But we accept that and sometimes we need to see the brighter side
of the movie. Okay...!! As most of us know by now that this movie was
the first to introduce motion capture to our industry . When Rana was
introduced , the way the character was designed was way out of normal
and felt as if it was no more our thalaivar there on the screen. Skin
toning , teeth coloring or facial recreation was way worst to even give
us the feel of watching rajini in screen and may be why Rana intro
didn't give much impact to me. More over the lip sync was horrible too
and the animation speed was way too slow as if playing a PC game on a
windows 98 Computer. But yes we got to forget that fact , convince
ourself and continue watching the movie with all the hope in the world.
His pair Deepika was worst ever irritating and the most disgusting
character to even watch was Yamuna devi , sister of rana. Not sure why
they induced more pain to the wound , there are hundreds of close up
shot of yamuna devi giving a vomiting sensation all through. Now comes
the next fun part..Sarath kumar...if it wasnt the voice...there will not
be one who can identify him as sarath kumar , worst ever Character
creation i must say. The only two faces some what recognizable was Nazer
and sobana , rest all is a guess game only.But good thing happened to
this technology introduction is that they brought Nagesh sir again alive
and it was so nice to see the legend again alive on the screen. Thanks
to the makers for it for deciding him to bring to life.
When
everything was going horrible , there came the second half and
kochadaiyan father character to the rescue..I must say this is the
savior of the film. It was damn cool how Kochadaiyan looked or even how
that Rudra thandavam was made. This is the one character which gave us
the Rajini feel and the dialogues , acting or that Fight at the ship was
all damn cool. Loved this character very much and only this character. And more better Sena ( 3rd Rajini character ) in the end , was so cool but i guess thats left to the sequel for more details.
Dialogues were intense and some to mention are the dialogues when Rana
talks to the King in jail " adhey Ratham appadi thaan irukum " or on the
climax fight scene.. " Nadikiradhu nuu mudivu panniyachi..appuram pagal
yenna iravu yenna.. " These are just few but there are so many which
will give you complete satisfaction watching Rajini film.
Forget
the worst ever made irking visuals , think you are hearing this movie
audio on a player ..i bet you will definitely love it to the core ,
because if you remove the visual factor this movie is the best and damn
cool. Though the father son revenge movie are prominently seen and
normal , still the way the movie was handled was definitely good and
deserves a stand up applause to KSR for giving such a magical
screenplay. Irrespective of the fact that the visuals do not support the
film , KSR write up and Rajini acting moves the movie forward atleast it felt better when everything else felt so worst. ARR
Music was damn cool and i cant say the BGM was best but it well
supported the movie for sure. Though i feel the placement of songs at
second half was unnecessary dragging the movie a bit more impacting the
phase of the movie. Still the run time of the entire movie was just 1:50
hrs only so that gives us a saving hand and prevents viewers from
boredom .
Irrespective of the fact that Rajini's daughter used
her fathers name 'n' fame as a Trump card for this movie , Still she
deserves all the credits for this daring attempt to bring the technology
to our industry. At the same time , dont miss to watch the End credits
bloopers for the hard-work the technical team has put on to bring this
movie to life. Its definitely not a easy task to perform acting on a
closed door wearing the suit for the motion capture and to act in a
imaginary medium , but the team has pulled through it and that should
not be gone unnoticed. Yes they brought the technology to India is one
thing...but how well they presented it to the audience falls another
part and i feel they all failed in the way they presented as it was very
very poor CG works i must say. Many might be telling if this movie
could have been made in as a real movie instead of animation , but
considering the way the movie is and Thalaivars age n health , this
would have been a herculean task for him and even would have spoiled his
health if he would have decided that way. So its quiet understandable
which also a factor need to be realized by his fans. But still , when you are able to create Nazer's face match so close why not the same done for other characters . Not sure if i could accept the blame that it was due to cost factor or the lack of involvement from the technical team to work harder to bring the characters close to real. That would still be a question which none will take any responsibility as there is a easy reason to keep blaming the lack of Cost to spend on the quality.
Saying all
this....you might be asking whether i liked this movie or not.... Well
thats a way too hypothetical question , because i liked this movie so
much in parts irrespective of the fact i hated First half visuals
totally. Everyone say that we need to encourage this new technology and
that this movie needs to be celebrated...so this leaves a question in my
mind that if the same movie the main character of rajinikanth replaced
by vadivelu or abbas or prasanth , will people still celebrate the
technology ? Why are we not open to admit that its the Rajini factor
which pulls audience as a magnet to the theaters but not the
introduction of technology. And as a rajini fan , ignoring some things ,
excluding some expectations , convincing myself at few things ,
adjusting myself at specific areas i did enjoy this movie and this is
definitely a one time watch for sure at-least . This statement is as a Fan but if you are one normal movie buff , then i might have to revisit my above statement because its a try , a attempt which definitely accepted and noticed , but a failed attempt for sure in eyes of general audience.
This movie
opened a gateway to new technology and i hope we will develop better
movies from here on...and this Movie also leaves a way to its sequel ,so
lets expect the team correct their mistakes and bring us a crystal clear experience. Above said is all my opinion only...
