7 Days (Les 7 jours du talion) French Film - " To Face a monster , life turns you into one "
When we search for some other movies , out of luck you would hit on to some hidden treasure and this movie is perfectly that kind. After watching Prisoners movie i been always in search of similar movies with same intense storyline and gripping screenplay and i must say my search has won with a grandeur prize.
This movie starts off with a simple notion covering life of a small family consisting of a husband who works as a doctor , wife who works in art gallery and a school going kid. Following is how their life shatters to pieces when a pedophile rapes and murders their girl brutally which shocks entire town and off-course their parents. Unlike other parents , here he decides to avenge for this only child's death by plotting the kidnap of the murderer who gets caught in police and then torturing him as needed for Seven days to satisfy their anger feeling as if they owe it to their child . 7th day would fall exactly on their kid's birthday who is no more because of a maniac and what would his dad do to the murderer on 7th day would be the end result. Okay this is core plot and anything more will spoil the beauty of it.
This movie perfectly tests the human emotions and i believe there are 50% of torture scenes were edited out considering the graphic nature of it. It may sound like some slasher film but its not , though at times the intensity of torture goes beyond a acceptable limit yet this film allows us to empathize on the pain parents are going through and also leaves us puzzling if the act of torture is acceptable or not and if vengeance will be answer for everything. Director has perfectly played it in our minds to really question our-self that at end of the film whether to approve his actions or not and thats were this movie succeeds greatly. This movie will be a nightmare to any pedophile out there and a warning message to them not to mess with any parents by taking them lightly.
There is a trivia too that There is no music in the entire movie, not even during the end credits and also the doctor wont even speak a word to the murderer at any time, yet the intensity of the movie is damn terrific. This is one kind of movie definitely not to be missed. This will also be similar like the other movie " The Horseman " , " Last house on the left " but this will easily come into top 10 Revenge based flicks. This movie not suggested for weak hearted and i believe there will a uncut director version also there somewhere. Happy watching
